Africans shines at Grammy Awards

Music’s biggest night “ Grammy Awards” 2016 has finally come to an end as   winners and losers alike are recovering from the after-parties. According to reports, this year’s Grammys which took place at Staples Center in Los Angeles on Monday February 15, drew 24.95 million viewers and a 7.7 rating among adults 18-49years. Olusola-Kidjo Also, the 58th annual Grammy Awards saw big wins from the likes of Taylor Swift, Broadway’s Hamilton and the Alabama Shakes, and King Kendrick. Other big winners included Taylor Swift, who earned three awards, including Best Music Video for her Kendrick-assisted “Bad Blood” clip. The Weekend won two; Best R&B Performance, Best Urban Contemporary Album and so did  D’Angelo and The Vanguard Best R&B Song, Best R&B Album of the year. Kevin, who is also known as KO, won for the second consecutive year in the ‘Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella’ category with his group Pentatonix. The group won in the same category at the 57th edition of the Grammys which held on Febrary 8, 2015. KO and his group presented the award for Song of the Year with the visually-impaired music legend. Angelique Kidjo Beninese-born music powerhouse, Angelique Kidjo on Monday won her third Grammy, the most coveted music award in the world. This came eight years after her 2007 album, Djin Djin, won her first Grammy Award for Best Contemporary world music album in 2008. The new win is coming about two years after she won her second Grammy in the world music album category for her album titled “eve,” a tribute to African women. The album is a compilation of orchestral versions of 9 songs from previous albums and 2 original songs: Nanae and Otishe, released in collaboration with the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra. Acknowledging the award on social media, Kidjo dedicated it to “fellow African artists and musicians”. Her past Grammy nominations include the Best Music Video of 1995 and Best World Music Album in 1999, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2010, 2014 and 2015
